For Jose-Luis Saavedra Sr., the qualities of grit, determination and a stubborn belief in his brand, are what helped create TapatĂo Hot Sauce 47 years ago. From a lawsuit riddled start, battling trademark infringement claims, to finding and protecting a name dedicated to the children of the family, TapatĂo has earned unparalleled success as a homegrown LA company. Why was the word “patio” in TapatĂo the source of a legal battle? How was the dispute with Jose Cuervo (tequila company) resolved? What has motivated TapatĂo to remain a family-owned operation?
RSVP now to attend the event and enjoy a conversation with Southwestern alumni! Dolores Saavedra McCoy '91 will discuss how she went from bottling hot sauce after school to representing the company in licensing negotiations alongside her husband, Roche McCoy '91, who now serves as general counsel for the company. Dolores and Roche met while they were both students in Southwestern’s evening program. Learning when to stay true and when to fight back has built this family business into the number one hot sauce brand on the west coast.
This is an event future lawyers and entrepreneurs alike won’t want to miss!
Co-sponsored by LLSA and STyLE
Food and TapatĂo will be provided!
